New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) The fall semester is in full swing for the inaugural class at GROOVE U—Columbus, Ohio's new, revolutionary music industry career program—with students gaining hands-on education in live and studio recording and production. Students recently worked a Short North block party and Columbus' annual Independents' Day Festival, managing stages and mixing audio for dozens of local artists.
"By providing our students with a variety of hands-on experiences each month, we focus on GROOVE U's career-centered approach to learning based on the principles that the music industry is — creatively engaged, apprenticeship-based and relationship-driven," said Dwight Heckelman, GROOVE U
Director and Founder. "Our community partnerships offer students the perfect opportunity to begin establishing professional relationships which can lead to internships and future career possibilities."
Earlier in the month, the school hosted world-renowned Swedish producer/songwriter
Andreas Carlsson (Katy Perry, Britney Spears) for an on-campus seminar featuring four up-and-coming bands chosen by the New Entertainment Group and OAR's Jerry DiPizzo, who sits on GROOVE U's advisory panel. Decades of experience inside the music industry have forged relationships which grant GROOVE U's staff unique access to artists, managers, producers/engineers, record labels, concert promoters, and film directors, who regularly visit for on-campus seminars.
Headed by 20-year music industry veteran Heckelman, GROOVE U focuses on a career-centered approach to learning developed by active industry professionals, with a core curriculum of live music, production, business, video, and interactive multimedia. The school officially opened its brand new 30,000-square foot campus
September 4, with rolling admissions continuing throughout the fall.
