Nashville, TN (Top40 Charts) Nobody Knows You from Bluegrass sensation Steep Canyon Rangers is nominated for Bluegrass Album of the Year at the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Nobody Knows You, released April 10, 2012 from Rounder Records, is the seventh album from the North Carolina-based group and their Rounder debut. Met with critical and commercial acclaim, Nobody Knows You - co-produced by 9-time GRAMMY winner Gary Paczosa - is fueled by deft musicianship, original songwriting, distinctive vocals and creative arrangements that eschew all formulas.
This nomination marks the second for the group, who were nominated in this same category at last year's GRAMMY ceremony for Rare Bird Alert, their collaborative effort with comedy icon Steve Martin.
The Steep Canyon Rangers are Mike Guggino (mandolin), Charles
Humphrey III (bass), Woody Platt (guitar), Nicky Sanders (fiddle) and Graham Sharp (banjo). The group first formed during their college days at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ten years later, the band has only deepened their commitment to roots music performing with fierce instrumental prowess, but also providing deeply moving songwriting and harmonies, infusing traditional bluegrass with contemporary themes and arrangements.
Each year the band presents the Mountain Song Festival in their native Brevard, N.C. and will again prove their innovative spirit as they move the festival to the open seas with Mountain Song at Sea, a floating Bluegrass festival experience. Mountain Song at Sea will make its inaugural voyage in February 2013.
The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards will air live from Los Angeles on Feb. 10, 2013. For more information, please visit www.SteepCanyon.com.

Kind Words:
"The traditional bluegrass group from North Carolina have demonstrated talent for more than sonorous harmony and breakneck fiddle instrumentals; they also served as world-class straight men when they backed Steve
Martin on a spate of prominent festival dates, including a gig at the 2010 Bonnaroo festival. Their 2011 record with Mr. Martin, Rare Bird Alert (Rounder), was whimsical and adroit; this performance will revolve around the lead vocals of the member Woody Platt, who is quite the charmer himself." - Stacey Anderson, New York Times
"Steep Canyon Rangers have still stayed true to their origins. They still prove their chops on most every song, and their vocal harmonies are still spot on. In fact, by reeling in these influences they have proved their songwriting ability evermore, a talent to combine genres and styles while not straying too far off course...with Nobody Knows You, the Steep Canyon Rangers have given their listeners yet another reason to keep listening." - Jonathan Kosakow, PopMatters
"For anyone who thinks bluegrass is nothing more than a bunch of hillbillies making a terrible racket on washtubs and whiskey jugs, Steep Canyon Rangers are here to knock some cotton-pickin' sense into ya." - Nico Isaac, Paste Magazine
"On their Rounder debut, the band continues to challenge their fans with 11 new tunes that show off their growing playing and songwriting skills. They're still a bluegrass band, but most of the songs here have a feel that owes as much to pop, folk, and singer/songwriter impulses as they do to bluegrass." - J. Poet, All
Music Guide
"[The album's] dozen songs do a fine job of telling you just who the Steep Canyon Rangers are in 2012. The Steeps' sound is decisively bluegrass, but while they don't break the rules, they leave them badly bent, avoiding the usual formulas. Though it's the overall sound of the Steeps, informed by the past, but not bound by it, that really sets the band apart. The feel is a bit like a tightly disciplined, song-oriented jam band." - Bluegrass Unlimited
