Mehldau to deliver 5th 'Art' volume

(Launch) - Pianist Brad Mehldau is set to deliver the next album in his acclaimed series of recordings - "Progression: Art of the Trio Volume 5," which will be released July 10. The album follows his last Warner Bros. release, "Places," which featured tunes written by Mehldau and named for the cities where they were written. It's also the follow-up to his previous record, 1999's "Art of the Trio 4: Back at the Vanguard." That live set, recorded Jan. 5-10, 1999, at New York's Village Vanguard, features Mehldau's sidemen Larry Grenadier and Jorge Rossy. These albums have earned Mehldau's trio two consecutive mentions atop the annual Downbeat Jazz Critic's Poll, in the category of best acoustic jazz group deserving of wider recognition. Mehldau is currently on tour in Europe.
