Cleveland, OH (Top40 Charts/ Webster & Associates ) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will host the 10th annual "It's Only Rock and Roll"
Spring Benefit on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 8 p.m. The much anticipated event will take place at the historic Public Hall at the Cleveland Convention Center. Balcony tickets are $20 and are on at rockhall.com or at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Box Office. This event is sponsored by PNC, Republic Steel and Horseshoe Casino.
The 10th annual museum benefit will be headlined by the legendary group Tower of Power with additional performances by WAR, and soul sounds of the 1960s group
Wesley Bright &The Hi-Lites. This show will beg the question: "What is Hip?" and Tower of Power will deliver the goods. It promises to be one of the coolest concerts of the year, so buy your tickets before you miss out on all the fun.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "It's Only Rock and Roll" Benefit proceeds support the Museum's award-winning educational activities, which explore the impact that modern music has had on our culture, politics and society, and reaches 50,000 students and educators on site and at great distances each year.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's education programs have become one of the most celebrated and award-winning, emanating from any fine arts museum in the nation. More than 25,000 Northeast Ohio students and teachers are reached annually through the popular "Rockin' the Schools" program. Nearly 50,000 students in more than 40 states as well as France, Australia, Canada, England, Guatemala, and Mexico have experienced "On the Road", the Rock Hall's distance learning program. Now in its 12th year, the Museum's Toddler Rock program has served more than 5,000 at-risk three to five year-olds in Cleveland. On Wednesday evenings each month the Museum hosts free educational programs for adults including "From Songwriters to Soundman: The People Behind the Hits", "Rock and Roll Night School" and "Teachers Rock" for area educators. About TOWER OF POWER:
Tower of Power's musical odyssey actually began in 1968 when
Emilio Castillo met Stephen "Doc" Kupka. When Doc auditioned during a band rehearsal at Emilio's house, Emilio's father called him into the kitchen and offered the following advice: "Hire that guy, he's got something." Tower of Power, as we know them today began playing gigs and soon became very well known in the area. Over the years, the Tower of Power iconic Horns have recorded with hundreds of artists as diverse as Aerosmith, Elton John,
Little Feat, Phish, Santana, Heart, and many others, forever infusing the radio airwaves with Tower's musical DNA. Since the beginning, Tower of Power has continued to tour and record. Their dedication to the music, their creative writing, and their original vision still guides Tower of Power.
About WAR:
The six founding members of WAR - the late Papa Dee Allen and Charles Miller, survivors Harold Brown, B.B. Dickerson, Lonnie Jordan, and
Howard Scott - were gigging around L.A. for nearly a decade before hooking up with Eric Burdon (ex-Animals) and Danish harmonica player Lee Oskar in 1969. Burdon and producer Jerry Goldstein named them War and they backed it up with a steamy Afro-Latin R&B groove that rocked their debut hit "Spill The Wine." Less than two years later, Burdon dropped out and War went their own way in 1971. A long string of Top 10 pop/R&B crossover hits established War's status through the '70s, always with a social message grounded by their distinctively breezy Southern California vibe. War was nominated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.
About WESLEY BRIGHT & THE HI-LITES:
Wesley Bright &The Hi-Lites began as a joint collaboration between Bob Basone and Nick Fritsch. The two came to know each other after touring together in other projects, and both shared a passion for the soul sounds of the 1960's, mainly the sweet northern
Detroit soul of the Motown label. After years of playing in various projects, Basone, Fritsch and
Wesley decided to finally put together a happening group of talented musicians that could produce the raw soul sounds of the 1960's.
Wesley Bright &The Hi-Lites formed in the heart of Akron, Ohio with the interest of being a part of the timeless sound of soul music. Specifically, the band identifies with the "Northern Soul" genre, drawing from the 1960's era of soul from Motown, Tamla, and many smaller record companies.
