NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Country music singer Connie Smith is canceling a performance for the first time in 27 years so she can rest her voice.

Smith canceled three performances this month on the advice of Dr. Mark Courey of the Vanderbilt Voice Center, who ordered full voice rest for three weeks.
The concerts were to be held in McConnellsville, Ohio; Kempton, Pa.; and Kansas City, Mo.

Smith, who joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1971, is known for country hits such as ``Once a Day'' and ``Then and Only Then.'' Smith is married to country music artist Marty Stuart.
