New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ All Core Records) Adrian Pain can multi-task. He can do three things at once. He can bring the pain, bring the noise sexy and bring the sexy energy with his this dead on band young metal-core band.of heavy metal kids. A longstanding member of the hard rock and metal scene community in Toronto (known as the "Warlock of Rock" to his fans), Pain's new project is an emotional and creative outlet for the singer/songwriter. He jokingly refers to his band's musical style as "Straight-up Backstreet Boys, if they wore
Black Metal makeup and played a 7-string Ibanez through a Mesa
Boogie head cab!Arriving at the crossroads only to find a
Little Red Corvette and a Big
Black Hearse had just been in a head-on collision" He's kidding, of course. While Adrian describes his is free to joke about his music and his band the Dead Sexy band—who certainly like to have a good time—there's an underlying seriousness to Pain's music and lyrics. The significance of the name, Pain, shouldn't be lost on anyone.
The Dead Sexy consists of Adrian's lead vocals complimented by Josh Carter's powerful screams, two guitarists, RockOnymousHD, Hayden Davidson and Matt Jenkins, as well as two vocalists, Pain and Josh Carter. Grant Kimmerer holds holding down the low-end on bass, and teenage drumming sensation with the teenaged Ethan Clark on drums. Together they create melody-heavy songs that are reminiscent of other genre-blending acts like the Deftones, Mud Vayne, and fellow Canadians, Alexisonfire. The band can take a heart-felt rock song, add Josh Carter's scream-o vocals to Pain's more traditional rock delivery and create a classic rockNu-Metal sound with a modern twist. Pain also likes to combine the music with meaningful lyrics that address issues that are important to him (human rights and other social/political causes), as well as subjects he has struggled struggles with in the past like addiction and depression. Adrian and the boys were the overall leaders in Toronto for 2012's Ernie Ball/Vans Warped voting poll and song plays. They played the Hard Rock Cafe during Canadian
Music Week and the 2012 Kitchener
Music Festival. They continue to headline clubs around Toronto (Lee's Palace, Bovine Sex Club, The Rivoli), yet despite all this, one of Pain's biggest accomplishments with the band so far, he feels, is being able to return to music after battling with the demons brought on by depression. The His previous solo effortbands' previous album, "Love Letters & Suicide Notes" helped open a floodgate of emotions for Pain. Ironically, dealing with those emotions provided the inspiration to keep it going and form The Dead Sexy. After writing the music to that first record, Pain focused even more. "The First One is Free" is the result of that focus.
With gigs lined up over the coming months, the band hopes to continue to win fans over with their hardserrated-edgeed, and hook-filled catchy metal songs. They hope the May spring 2013 release of their new record will help them reach a wider audience and maybe even help people who can relate to the lyrical subject matter. They'd also like to tour in support of the new record.
