New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Los Angeles pop-folk crew known as Percy and the Gunslingers have released their definitive new single, "Andrew." The single has been published alongside two other official Percy and the Gunslingers releases, "Gunslinger Shuffle" and "Magnetic Metal." The trio represents the most significant clutch of songs produced by this remarkable group to date, and is an exceptional introduction to one of the most intriguing and delightful music acts performing today.
The sound of Percy and the Gunslingers is somewhere between classic rock, blues, and western-themed folk music. It has been variously categorized as rock, alt rock, classic rock, country, folk, folk rock, indie, indie pop, and pop. The band themselves have described their music as, "If Feist, Beach House, and
Fleetwood Mac had a glorious love child..." This sonic chimera is not at all far from the actual sound, though the experience is much more effective firsthand.
Their music is melodic, harmonic, and highly lyrical, providing country-western-style narratives from track to track that are inventive, colorful, and fun. These stories, penned by singer Ali Mills, are weaved into the music so tightly as to become interdependent with it, and the tales braid together so that a cohesive environment for their tunes is set. This provides an imaginary, yet almost palpable stage on which their performance takes place in the listener's mind. Their vocals are exceptionally feminine, their guitars decidedly masculine, and their percussion is warm, natural, and gorgeously straightforward.
The group cite as main artistic influences a gigantic list of legends that spans the decades: Fleetwood Mac, Beach House, Jenny Lewis, The Like, Fleet Foxes, Fat City Reprise, Feist, Portugal the Man, Arcade Fire, Fool's Gold,
Blake Mills, Grizzly Bear, Radiohead, The Walkmen, Band of Horses, Haim, The Dead Weather, Dawes, Warpaint, Moondoggies,
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Mowglis, Terraplane Sun, Tom Petty, New Orleans Jazz, Lucinda Williams, Jesca Hoop, and Paul McCartney.
They are headed by the singer, songwriter and front-woman Mills, whose original idea became the inception of the band as a whole. Mills is joined by Eric
David of the
David Brothers and Stampead, as well as by Frankie Pedano of Fat City Reprise.
Friends Nikki Kilker, Jon Stipp, Timmy Sean and Jon Manness round out the lineup.
