LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts) - The tragic events that terrorized the United States and the world on Tuesday (Sept. 11), have brought the country to an unimaginable and horrific standstill.
From the halting of all airline flights in U.S. and Canadian airspace to the closure of the New York Stock Exchange to the shut down of government offices nationwide, nothing and no one was spared from this tragedy, including the entertainment industry. Nearly all concerts, events, and performances were cancelled nationwide on Tuesday, with a large number to follow on Wednesday (Sept. 12) and through the end of the week.
Among the cancellations on Tuesday were the 2nd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, Madonna's second show at Staples Center in Los Angeles, a Mixmaster Mike album release party in Los Angeles, a gold party for Rascal Flatts in Nashville, and concerts by Tool, Tony Bennett, Redman, Anthrax, Matchbox Twenty and Train, Sting, O-Town, Lil' Romeo, Godsmack, Maxwell, Weezer, Megadeth, Dave Navarro, Janet Jackson, Lee Ann Womack, Ozomotli, among several others.
Kenny Chesney |
One cancellation -- which luckily came
before the tragedy stuck -- stands out the most. Country star
Kenny Chesney was supposed to be in New York on Tuesday to shoot a video for his song, "The Tin Man," on top of a skyscraper, using the World Trade Center's Twin Towers as a backdrop. His publicist says that since the song was doing so well, the label had decided that it wasn't necessary to shoot a video and the trip to the city had been cancelled.
Looking forward, here is a roundup of cancellations for the next week, with many more expected:
CMJ Music Marathon & Filmfest: CMJ, one of the music industry's biggest annual events set to take place
Thursday (Sept. 13) through Sunday (Sept. 16) in New York, has postponed until Oct. 10-13 at the Hilton New York. CMJ Chairman Robert K. Haber posted a message on the festival's site Wednesday morning that read, in part: "On behalf of the entire CMJ extended family, I wish to extend my most profound condolences to the families of the innocent victims of yesterday's vicious terrorist attacks, and my sincerest prayers for the thousands of injured."

Garth Brooks |
Country Cancellations: Garth Brooks' press conference on Monday (Sept. 17) at the Country
Music Hall of Fame. "We are United States citizens first and a record label second," said Mike Dungan, president/CEO of Capitol Records Nashville in a statement released Tuesday.
