New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) Lakeshore Records will release the I, FRANKENSTEIN - Original Motion Picture Score digitally and on CD on January 21, 2014. The soundtrack features original score composed by Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil (Cloud Atlas, Run Lola Run).
Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) contributes vocals on three cues. I, FRANKENSTEIN will be in theaters on January 24, 2014.
"I think the most interesting element from our side was getting Lisa Gerrard's voice in the score," said Klimek. "She did a great job."
"She has this very unique timbre that fit the Gothic nature of the story perfectly," Heil agreed. In addition the duo decided to forego all woodwinds for the score. He explained, "restrictions are always good because they help create a specific character for any piece of art,"
In addition to Reinhold Heil and Johnny Klimek's lasting association with Tom Tykwer, spanning several films, most notably Cloud Atlas, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, and The International, Reinhold and Johnny have collaborated on dozens of film and television scores, including One Hour Photo, two series and a film for HBO: Deadwood, John From Cincinnati, and Golden Globe-nominated Iron Jawed Angels, cult horror film director
George Romero's Land Of The Dead, the Academy Award-nominated
Sophie Scholl: The Last Days, action thriller
Killer Elite starring Jason Statham and Robert DeNiro, the NBC crime drama series Awake. They also wrote the theme and scored multiple episodes of Without A Trace, for which they won seven ASCAP Awards.
A multi-instrumentalist with a broad musical range, Reinhold Heil draws on his eclectic background in classical music, rock, and electronica to challenge the boundaries of contemporary film and television scoring. He first came to prominence as the keyboarder of the legendary German punk band, the
Nina Hagen Band. His film and television credits include Syfy's new series Helix. He lives and works in downtown Los Angeles.
Johnny Klimek is a fourth generation film composer, equally comfortable in the electronic studio and on the recording stage with
Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic. His style is a genuine hybrid of the ambient soundscapes and propulsive grooves he mastered during his formative years in the Berlin underground and the classic film scoring tradition so much associated with Hollywood. Klimek, is breaking out on his own - set to score Kriv Stender's Kill Me Three Times (2014), as well as the Netflix original series Sense8 (2014). He has also recently composed for HBO's The Newsroom and FOX's Mind Games.
200 years after his shocking creation, Dr. Frankenstein's creature, Adam, still walks the earth. But when he finds himself in the middle of a war over the fate of humanity, Adam discovers he holds the key that could destroy humankind. From the co-writer of the hit supernatural saga, UNDERWORLD, comes the action thriller I, FRANKENSTEIN, written for the screen and directed by
Stuart Beattie, screen story by
Kevin Grevioux and
Stuart Beattie, based on the Darkstorm Studios graphic novel "I, Frankenstein" created by
Kevin Grevioux. The story is brought to life by a cast that includes
Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski,
Miranda Otto, Jai Courtney, and Aden Young as Victor Frankenstein.
"The whole score was based around four main themes," described Klimek. "These often intertwine depending upon the characters on screen and the emotional response needed. The film is quite musically driven in parts so some sequences called for many emotional shifts."
"I love to flesh out stories from what I read between the lines," said Heil. "I feel that there is a deeply subversive element to the story that bears some relevance for our reality. Evil forces want to take over the world and have been plotting to do so for a long time. Time to stand together and fight back!"
