LOS ANGELES (BMI) - BMI's Doreen Ringer Ross, Vice President of Film/TV Music, will moderate "Setting the Mood: The Crucial Marriage of Music and Film" panel on film music at the 26th annual IFP Market on Thursday, September 23. The panel will take place at the Puck Building Gallery (293 Lafayette Street) in New York City. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.market.ifp.org.

Topics will include score vs. source music, creating and licensing music for soundtracks, the director/composer relationship, the role of the music supervisor and music clearance. Panelists will include Director Patrick Stettner ("Flux," "The Business of Strangers"), composer Theodore Shapiro ("Girl Fight," "Starsky and Hutch," "Dodgeball"), music supervisor and Commotion Records executive Tracy McKnight, Spirit Music's Senior Director of Film/TV Peter Shane, music clearance executive Brook Wentz and BMI's Ross as moderator.

BMI sponsors many film music panels at film festivals and markets throughout the U.S. each year. These panels are designed to promote greater understanding within the filmmaking community about the aesthetic and business aspects of music in film as well as provide an opportunity for composers, songwriters, and filmmakers to learn more about each other's role.

BMI, founded in 1939, is an American performing rights organization that represents approximately 300,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers in all genres of music. Through its music performance and reciprocal agreements, it grants businesses and media access to its repertoire of approximately 4.5 million musical works from around the world.
