NEW YORK (AP) - Rocker Jon Bon Jovi is poised to replace Robert Downey Jr. as Ally McBeal's romantic interest on "Ally McBeal" this season.
Elton John is also reportedly negotiating for a recurring role on the Fox series, produced by David E. Kelley and starring Calista Flockhart.

Rock stars are nothing new to "Ally"; last season, Sting made a guest appearance, playing himself in a plotline in which a man was suing his wife over her infatuation with the British rocker.
It's not yet known just how many episodes Bon Jovi will be appearing in, but insiders say it's almost a sure bet his character will become involved in a romantic liaison with lovelorn Boston lawyer Ally McBeal, played by Flockhart.

Downey, troubled by drug woes, was tossed from "Ally McBeal" at the end of last season after his numerous run-ins with the law. Kelley hired Downey just after the actor had served a jail sentence related to past drug charges.
Downey won a Golden Globe award for his "Ally" work, but his legal problems weren't enough to save his job.

Bon Jovi is no stranger to the acting world.

In addition to the dozens of videos in which he starred for his rock group, Bon Jovi also starred in the big-screen movies "Pay It Forward," "Vampires," "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll," "U-571" and "Row Your Boat."
