NEW YORK (AP) - When Alanis Morissette called in the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo, and others for her upcoming album, Under Rug Swept, she wasn't even sure if their cameo appearances were necessary.
But Morissette tells that her opinion changed as soon as she heard their contributions, as well as those of former Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery and renowned bassist Me'Shell Ndegeocello.

"When Flea plays, his sweet spirit is all over the track, and same with Dean and same with Eric Avery and Me'Shell Ndegeocello," she says. "I mean, they are all really brilliant. And the band mates that I've toured with that are also all over the record, it's like a community, you know, and I love creating community, facilitating it, and it's one of my favorite things to do when making a record as well now, I think."

Under Rug Swept, featuring first single "Hands Clean," arrives from Maverick Recordings February 26.
