Mirian Conti Records Solo Piano Music Of Grammy Winning And Academy Award-Nominated Composer Lalo Schifrin - Collection Released On November 1
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Internationally renowned, New York-based pianist Mirian Conti has recorded Lalo Schifrin - Piano Works, a collection of solo piano music by Grammy Winning and Academy Award Nominated Composer Lalo Schifrin. The collection of World Premieres will be released on November 1 by the Naxos Grand Piano label (GP776). Ms. Conti will present a special CD launch concert on November 30 at the Consulate General of Argentina, 12 West 56th Street, New York, NY.

Works recorded are a new arrangement of Schifrin's Mission: Impossible: Main Theme (Version For Piano) (1973/2016); Tango: Main Theme, Tango Del Atardecer (Version For Piano) (1997/2016) ; 3 Pampas (Version For Piano) (2009/2016); Jazz Piano Sonata, Op. 1 (1963/2016), Danza De Los Montes (Version For Piano) (2005/2016); Theme And 10 Variations On An Original Theme (2016); Tango A Borges (Version For Piano) (2005/2016); La Calle Y La Luna (Version For Piano) (2005/2016) and Lullaby For Jack (2016).

Lalo Schifrin says about the project, "I am very touched to be the composer honored by Mirian Conti's CD. Her impeccable performance is very moving, because being the only writer of her repertoire, it is very humbling to me. Her technique is perfect, and her emotional interpretations are incredible. Bravo Mirian Conti for your amazing effort. Your playing makes me eager to write a sequel."

Mirian Conti says, "It is truly a joy to perform Lalo Schifrin's piano music, and to be able to understand how he can easily travel from one genre to another in such a masterful and virtuoso way: from Jazz, to Tangos, to Classical, and all extremely pianistic. I love his pianism full of expressivity, rhythmic surprises, wonderful colors and effects. His "Argentinism" is not lost after many years away from his native country and his "Americanism" is integrated into his personality through Jazz and film music. We are both Argentines on a mission. "

Lalo Schifrin is a true Renaissance man. As a pianist, composer and conductor, he is equally at home conducting a symphony orchestra, performing at an international jazz festival, scoring a film or television show, or creating works for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the London Philharmonic and even The Sultan of Oman.

As a young man in his native Argentina, Lalo Schifrin received classical training in music, and also studied law. He came from a musical family, and his father, Luis Schifrin, was the concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colon. Lalo Schifrin continued his formal music education at the Paris Conservatory during the early 1950's, studying with numerous teachers including famed composer Olivier Messiaen. Simultaneously he became a professional jazz pianist, composer and arranger, playing and recording in Europe at night.

When Schifrin returned to Buenos Aires in the mid 1950's, he formed his own big concert band. It was during a performance of this band that Dizzy Gillespie heard Schifrin play and asked him to become his pianist and arranger. In 1958, Schifrin moved to the United States and thus began a remarkable career.

To date, Lalo Schifrin has written over 100 film and television scores including Mission Impossible, Mannix, Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, The Cincinnati Kid, Amityville Horror, four of the Dirty Harry films, and more recently Abominable and the Rush Hour trilogy. Lalo Schifrin has now won five Grammys® (twenty-two nominations), one Cable ACE Award, and six Academy Award® nominations. His longtime involvement in both the jazz and symphonic worlds came together in 1993 as pianist and conductor for his on-going series of "Jazz Meets the Symphony" recordings.

Argentine/American pianist, Yamaha artist, and 6 @ 6 at Yamaha series curator Mirian Conti, based in New York City, is a musician whose performances combine technical brilliance with striking originality and artistic insight. Stylistically assured in a wide range of repertoire, Ms. Conti's prolific recording output and international concerts have garnered praise and awards. In recognition of her extraordinary talent, a scholarship honoring Mirian Conti was established at The Juilliard School by the Edwin Bachman Estate. In addition, she was selected as one of the "100 Outstanding Alumni" to celebrate The Juilliard School's Centennial in 2005-6.

6 @ 6 at Yamaha, a solo piano performance series in its fourth season, curated by Mirian Conti, features world-class international pianists exploring an array of solo piano works from the last 400 years. The series was formerly known as 5 @ 5 at DiMenna.
Her latest CD, Children's World, recorded at Yamaha Salon in NYC, has been released on the Albany label (Troy 1642). The Steinway & Sons label has released her recordings of the complete Chopin Mazurkas (CD 3003), Nostalgias Argentinas (CD 30010) and Panorama Argentino (CD 30023). She has also recorded for Parnassus, Koch International Classics, XLNT and Toccata Classics. Much more about her at https://www.mirianconti.com.
