Lakeshore Records To Release Piranha 3DD - Original Motion Picture Score
Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) Lakeshore Records will release the Piranha 3DD - Original Motion Picture Score digitally on May 29th and in stores on June 19, 2012. The soundtrack for the horror comedy sequel to 2010's Piranha 3D, features original music by Elia Cmiral (Atlas Shrugged Part 1, Splinter).

"From the first scenes of the movie that I watched," said Cmiral, "I immediately recognized a great opportunity to write a very different score from any of the others in my career."

"P3DD marks my fourth collaboration with Elia and quite possibly my favorite," said producer Joel Soisson. "Having a composer of Elia's sophisticated genius rise to this level of inspired silliness is a bit like Dvořák scoring Pee Wee's Playhouse. It just works, brilliantly."

Born in Czechoslovakia, Elia Cmiral is the son of an actress and a theater director, and grandson of one of Antonin Dvorak's pupils. Cmiral attended the Prague Music Conservatory, where he studied composition and double bass. Elia's first scoring opportunity came with his father's production of "Cyrano de Bergerac."

By the early 80s, Cmiral had moved to Sweden. Throughout his time there, he wrote scores for several European films, TV and three ballets. In 1989 he moved to the United States to attend USC's Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program. Soon after graduating from USC, Cmiral scored his first American feature, Apartment Zero, starring Colin Firth. To date, Cmiral has written nearly forty scores, including Stigmata, Wrong Turn, Tooth and Nail, and Splinter. His upcoming releases include Rites of Passage.

After the terror unleashed on Lake Victoria in Piranha 3D, the pre-historic school of bloodthirsty piranhas are back. This time, no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of summer's best attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.

Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) reprises his role as the eccentric piranha expert with survivor Paul Scheer (The League) and a partially devoured Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction) back for more fish frenzy. David Hasselhoff trades in the sandy beaches of "Baywatch" to be a celebrity lifeguard at the racy water park. Prepare for double the terror, double the action and double the fun in this sequel also starring Gary Busey (Lethal Weapon), Katrina Bowden (30 Rock), Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies), Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man) and David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy).

"I felt as though the score should enhance the ridiculousness as much as possible rather than trying to smooth over the mood shifts and flatten all of its ups and downs," explained Cmiral. "Musically speaking, playing it 'straight' based on what happens on screen helped to give the film an enjoyable 'over the top' feel. My approach to select from a variety of genres turned out to work very well."

"From his earnestly heroic theme in 'Return of the Piranha' to his soaring aria in 'Trident Aria,' Elia Cmiral's score is nothing but thrilling. The fact that his score plays it 'straight' only heightens the ridiculousness of a wacky movie like Piranha 3DD," said director John Gulager. "Suffice it to say there is a tasty aural candy throughout the score. Piranha 3DD would not be the same without it and I am grateful to Elia for coming aboard."

Dimension Films presents Piranha 3DD, in theaters and on demand on June 1, 2012. The Piranha 3DD -- Original Motion Picture Score on Lakeshore Records will be available digitally on May 29th and in stores on June 19, 2012.
