Nashville Musician Performing In Downtown Frederick - Saturday, May 18
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Chris Emkey is not a household name...yet. This smooth singer and brilliant pianist channels Billy Joel, Elton John, and Jerry Lee Lewis as he sits at his keyboard. He attended Berklee College of Music and graduated in 2016 while playing gigs up and down the East coast. Last year this talented musician moved from his hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania to Nashville, Tennessee to make a career out of singing and tickling the ivories. Once again, Everedy Square and Shab Row has the honor to host Chris as part of their Shab Row Third Saturday music series.

When asked about his new life in "Music City," he had this to say:
"Everyone and their mother is a musician in Nashville; you'd be hard pressed to go a block without hearing a song or seeing some reference to the music industry."

Anyone who has the chance to hear Chris play, knows that he has something special. Despite his unparalleled talent, he possesses a down-to-Earth and humble attitude. He set-out to Nashville to make a career out of music. For only living there less than a year, he has had a lot of success.

"I've been playing piano for a few different bands, as well as piano/organ for a gospel church and scattered solo performances in between. I have been playing Blues, jazz, pop, folk, funk, jam band, hard rock, and gospel material - pretty much everything but country! Between the groups and solo ventures, I've played up and down Tennessee, dipped into surrounding states, and done one-offs in Norway, Boston, and Pennsylvania. I've been lucky to play with some of the best out there in various settings, including drummer Derico Watson (Victor Wooten), guitarist Carl Stewart (BB King), and drummer Duffy Jackson (Count Basie Orchestra, Al Jarreau). My hope is to continue to be involved with a wide variety of artists, genres, and settings; I will never be bored learning new music and seeing new places."

Chris Emkey will be performing on May 18 at Everedy Square and Shab Row from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. This free concert will be held outdoors at the Shab Row stage behind the Frederick Coffee Company and Café. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to 10 N. East Street, beside the Frederick Basket Company.

The free live music does not stop there. Local musician Stephen Darnell will also be performing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Shab Row Stage. Stephen Darnell is a spiritual and passionate performer of the Native American-style flute, Shakuhachi Flute, Irish Whistle, Didgeridoo, Armenian Duduk, and Moyo Drum, whose music is a place of peace, a place of rest, and a place for coming home. Stephen has embraced the melodic wonder that the flute and didgeridoo has to offer, opening a realm of soulful and empowering creativity.
