Avicii Gets Another UK No 1 Single!
LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts) Last week the sales of the number one single drop below 100,000 for the first time in almost 3 months. This week the 100,000 barrier has been broken again and this time it has been done in grand style with Avicii's 'Wake Me Up!' passing that milestone on Monday and by Thursday it had become the first single of the year to sell 200,000 copies in a week.
Avicii becomes only the second Swede to have more than one number one hit in the UK. "Which other Swedish act has had more than one UK number one single?" is one of the simplest pop quiz questions of all time. The song features vocals from Aloe Blacc who was last in the top 40 with the sublime I Need A Dollar in 2011.

Blurred Lines sold around 80,000 copies last week to leave its total sales just a few thousand short of a million. It has now, as expected, become the second 2013 release to sell in excess of a million copies as it moves down to number two after a fifth, non-consecutive week at the top. Pharell Williams thus joins the select list of artists to have had two million-sellers in the same calendar year. The last person to achieve this was Lady GaGa in 2009.

John Newman slips back one place to number three. Icona Pop and will.i.am are static at numbers four and five respectively.

After a marathon 38 week run, Lumineers' Ho Hey drops out of the top 40 bringing to an end the second longest continuous run in the top 40 in chart history. Only Stranger On The Shore by Mr "Acker" Bilk's 45 week run in 1961/2 lasted longer. According to folklore the United Kingdom will collapse if the ravens leave the Tower of London. What fate awaits now that Lumineers have left the top 40? If Australian batsmen showed anything like the same staying power, the current Test Match might have been almost close-ish.
