LOS ANGELES (Harmony Gallery PR) - An exclusive new exhibit of extremely rare photographs of rock icon Gram Parsons is set to open at Los Angeles' Harmony Gallery on Friday, January 20, 2006, with a special Opening Night Ceremony scheduled to run from 8:00 - 10:00 PM. The vast scope of the photos on display at this unique showing has been designed to illuminate the man behind the myth.
Gram Parsons was a revolutionary in the music world, widely considered one of the most influential artists of his time... and continues to be so in our own. When he died in 1973 at the age of 26, Gram Parsons became a legend.
The all-new exhibit, Grievous Angel: An Intimate View of Gram Parsons is running in conjunction with the just-published Grievous Angel... biography/ memoir, a creative collaboration between best-selling author and music journalist,
Jessica Hundley, and Gram's only daughter, Polly Parsons, released by Thunders Mouth Press. The Gallery show contains the work of five photographers, ranging from celebrated rock lensers to Gram's intimate acquaintances. Admission to the Gallery showing is free and the photos on display will be available for sale.
The Opening Night Ceremony will feature select readings from Grievous
Angel by
Jessica Hundley, accompanied by a slide show and two acoustic performances - much in the vein of Hundley's recent national reading tour for the acclaimed new "bio-scrapbook." Polly Parsons is also slated to be present at the Gallery Opening. The exhibition is scheduled to run for a month.
The five photographers whose work will be on display at the exhibition include: Jim McCrary (famed rock photographer responsible for some of the world's most famous album covers, including Carole King's Tapestry), Tom Wilkes (Gram's longtime documentarian, who offers a more intimate side of the legend rooted in years spent together), Kim Gottlieb-Walker (a celebrated entertainment photographer whose work has graced the pages of Rolling Stone, Newsweek and People), Andee Cohen Nathanson (Gram's close friend and "partner in mischief," whose photos reveal a more playful sensitivity) and Janeen Lund (one of the finest of a new crop of celebrity photographers).
In addition to the Harmony Gallery's Opening Night Ceremony,
Jessica Hundley is scheduled to read from Grievous
Angel at Los Angeles' famed Amoeba Records, also slated for mid-January, 2006. For this momentous event, she will be accompanied by quintessential rock groupie-turned-author,
Pamela Des Barres. The exact date for this unique pairing will be confirmed shortly.
