New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Having spent time working with Katy Perry and writing for Disney films, noted musician Jonatha Brooke now returns with her new EP 'Imposter' on November 15th preceded by a headline show at The Islington on September 28th
With a career spanning over two decades and more than ten album releases, it's safe to say that renowned musician and performer Jonatha Brooke is no stranger to recognition. Following four major label releases in the 90's, Brooke decided to open her own independent label Bad Dog Records and has been releasing here since 1999.
Her expert musicianship and intelligent lyricism have led to a loyal and ever increasing fanbase, and in the recent years she has been the recipient of a McKnight Artist Fellowship Grant, and won the International Acoustic Music Award for Best Artist.

Her new five track EP 'Imposter' is an arms wide open, embrace all offering that encourages us all to step outside our comfort zone to live as authentically as possible. The eponymous title track was written for Brooke's NYC Song Club where she had promised to deliver something new every two weeks. 'Imposter' was her first contribution and analyses her tendency to be her own harshest critic.

Starting with a descending string introduction, the song soon intensifies with the introduction of a dynamic rhythm section and Brooke's sultry and smooth vocals. A passionate exploration of feeling inadequate, the track is raw in its honesty and relatable in its sentiment. "Runs in the family I come from a long line of pretenders", sings Brooke in a way that means the lyrics are felt as much as they are heard.

The EP also features the fiercely empowering 'Fire', the frank depiction of forgiveness and loss 'Firefly', and the boldly progressive 'Revenge' (in this story, revenge is inclusivity, kindness and diversity). At its core it's an EP about love, acceptance, and resolution, and it shows the true flexibility and versatility of this talented artist and musician.

A lover of the theatre and a keen thespian, 2014 saw the debut of Brooke's one-woman musical 'My Mother has Four Noses' in NYC. Written whilst Brooke was looking after her mother who had Alzheimer's, the play is an erudite and tragic love story with a comedic flair. The show ran Off-Broadway for ten weeks before playing elsewhere in the states to full audiences and rave reviews.

Since garnering critical acclaim with 'My Mother has Four Noses' Brooke has continued to release emotional and yet spirited explorations of relatable life experiences, and 'Imposter' comes following the success of her 2016 release 'Midnight. Hallelujah'.

So, what's next for Jonatha Brooke? Well with two projects currently on the go ('Quadroon', with the late legendary jazz pianist/composer Joe Sample; and 'Switched' with playwright Geoffrey Naufft), and the forthcoming release of 'Imposter' on November 15th, Brooke seems on track to meet and exceed the success of her previous releases…
Brooke has just released the EP's title track, check it out below.
