Miranda Lee Richards Premieres "First Light Of Winter" With KCWR - New Album 'Echoes Of The Dreamtime' Out 1/29

Eric J. Lawrence of KCRW said the new album "expands, matures and solidifies her sound" which he describes as "pastoral, psychedelic folk-rock."

Recently, Stereogum premiered "7th Ray," the first single to be released from the album, and said, "It's a gorgeous midtempo track that sounds a bit like what Beach House come up with if they tried to write roots rock."

Echoes Of The Dreamtime brings together eight atmospheric epics into a work that is her most impressive yet. The album, which recalls artists such as Natalie Prass, Jessica Pratt, and Agnes Obel incorporates a more lyrically narrative style, with many of the songs coming in at over five minutes. The eight-minute track "It Was Given" is based on the movie The White Ribbon by Michael Haneke.

"So much of our experience lies within the realm of the subconscious, influencing our outer realities. When we realize we have control over our offering to the world, we begin to examine the subconscious and have a conversation with it, instead of being ruled unknowingly by it," says Richards about the album. "In Echoes of the Dreamtime, those inner workings rise to the surface and begin to integrate into our experience. Contained therein are themes of self-discovery, transformation, and grappling with the duality between dark and light within ourselves and society. The literal use of Space Echo throughout is reflective of the theme: it's subtle and beautiful and repeats until we listen."

Richards was born in San Francisco after the summer of love and before the dawn of disco. Her parents are well-known underground comic book artists Ted and Terre Richards, R. Crumb being their most infamous contemporary. After graduating from the San Francisco School Of The Arts, she travelled to Paris to model, but soon returned to the U.S. to pursue a musical career. A series of chance encounters led her to befriend Kirk Hammet from Metallica, who taught her to play guitar. Early demos of her songs reached the ears of Anton Newcombe, and she soon joined his band The Brian Jonestown Massacre. She sang on their early recordings, including the first track on the debut album, and appeared with them in the seminal documentary DIG!.

Echoes Of The Dreamtime is Richards' third studio album and first release in more than six years.
