New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Ranky Tanky have shared five brand-new tracks from their upcoming sophomore album Good Time, out July 12 through Resilience
Music Alliance. The Charleston, SC five-piece teased the release earlier this week when they shared the song "Beat Em Down" via Oxford American, in conjunction with the publication announcing a South Carolina
Music Issue for later this year. The Beat Em Down EP features a fresh batch of material representing the musical heritage of coastal Carolina's Gullah community, fusing West African influences with the traditions of the American South to create a truly singular blend of "soulful honey to the ears" (NPR).
Since releasing their debut album in 2017, Ranky Tanky have quickly become global ambassadors for Gullah music and the community surrounding it. The five longtime friends have brought their work to the top of the Billboard charts, classified as Jazz while simultaneously being hailed as "overlooked Americana" by NPR. Ranky Tanky have also spread their message in a
Fresh Air interview with vocal fan Terry Gross, and through a show-stopping performance on the TODAY Show. In a recent profile, Garden & Gun noted, "to listen to Ranky Tanky is to be taken to church, yes, but it is also to be reminded of your secular humanity."
