World Soundtrack Awards Announces Program/Young Composers Competition
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The 16th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards shines the spotlight on television scores, showcasing the music from the most beloved television shoes in recent history. Brussels Philharmonic and the Flemish Radio Choir will perform the scores from series including Fargo, Homeland, House of Cards, Sherlock and The Leftovers with composers JEFF RUSSO, SEAN CALLERY, JEFF BEAL, DAVID ARNOLD and MAX RICHTER in attendance. For the first time, the World Soundtrack Awards will feature two concert programs: the World Soundtrack Awards Gala the traditional award ceremony and concert on October 19th and a second WSA Concert without ceremony on October 20th.

New Golden Age of Television
The list is simply endless: House of Cards, Game of Thrones, The Americans, Better Call Saul, Mad Men, Fargo, The Leftovers, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Borgen, The Killing, The Walking Dead, Les Revenantsall television series with sophisticated storytelling that rivals current cinema. Not just high- profile directors and writers are attracted to this new Golden Age of TV, but also top composers are making their way into living rooms with their contributions to this exciting and addictive art form. Its no suprise that big names such as Jeff Beal, Max Richter and David Arnold venture to television scoring. We have know for a while now that original TV scores are catching up with the rather traditional field of film scores. Reasons enough for us to focus on a wide range of original TV scores during our 16th WSAwards, says Dirk Bross, music director of the World Soundtrack Awards.

The 16th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards will showcase the music composed for todays top television shows. This year it will be featured in two different programs: the World Soundtrack Awards Gala on Wednesday October 19th, and the WSA Concert on Thursday October 20th. In addition a new award will be introduced at the World Soundtrack Awards Gala: Best Original Score for Television Series & Miniseries. Following the Award Ceremony, a concert will celebrate the best scores for contemporary TV.

Honoring their role and craftsmanship in these series, Film Fest Gent has invited several composers and film/television music professionals to Ghent for the World Soundtrack Awards Gala on Wednesday October 19th to attend the live performances of these scores.

In addition to compelling live performances of David Arnold and Michael Prices score for the British- American drama TV series Sherlock and Max Richters mysterious soundtrack from cult-drama series The Leftovers by Brussels Philharmonic and the Flemish Radio Choir, several composers will make their way to the stage for what is often the debut of their scores played live in front of an audience. American composer and arranger Jeff Russo will play drums during the live performance of his Emmy nominated music from Fargo. Sean Callery, best known from his suspense-driven scores on TV-series 24 and Homeland will perform piano on the latter. For the performance of his score and theme for Netflix drama House of Cards, composer Jeff Beal will take the stage. Film Fest Gent will announce additional names of attending composers and the full program by the end of June 2016.

The following day the WSA Concert will reprise the concert of the best scores for contemporary TV-series. The program will be expanded to include a look back at the thrilling scores and tunes of legendary series from our youth, from cult-hits to award-winning masterpieces, from Dallas to Mission Impossible, from Star Trek to The Untouchables, from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. to Dynasty.

Both concerts feature performances by Brussels Philharmonic and the Flemish Radio Choir, conducted by maestro Dirk Bross, accompanied by film clips projected on the big screen.
