Biracial Rap Rocker Jawz Weighs In On BET Awards Speech
New York, NY (Top40 Charts / JAWZ) Actor/activist Jessie Williams' speech at the BET Awards Sunday night and the backlash over Justin Timberlake's Twitter comments raise questions about where to draw the line between white and black cultures in entertainment. "There are serious issues with the exploitation of black culture," says LA-based artist, JAWZ. "For example, blacks find it virtually impossible to gain access back into rock & roll while white privilege often allows white entertainers to traverse hip hop. But it is often overlooked that American music has always beena combination of black and white contributions. I'm bringing the two together in a new way."

His latest controversial single "White | Black" is often critiqued as "white rap" because of his proper lyrical delivery. His use of iconic getup and powerful rock vocals appeal to die-hard rock & roll audiences. With convincing credibility in both genres, JAWZ combines white and black, rock and rap.

He explains, "The greatest limitation American music faces is that our two most globally recognized cultures (rock & roll and hip hop) remain largely segregated. I'm not either or, the same way American culture is not either white culture or black culture, but both."
