Milan Records To Release 'The Knick: Season 2' Original TV Soundtrack Composed By Cliff Martinez
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Milan Records will release THE KNICK: SEASON 2 - Original Television Soundtrack digitally on October 30 followed by a physical CD December 18, 2015. The album features original music by composer Cliff Martinez (DRIVE, SPRING BREAKERS), a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"I thought the music from last year was scary good," admitted Martinez. "Then when Steven edited the new episodes around that music, in many instances it felt even stronger than in its original incarnation. It seemed impossible to top. After such attention to musically creating the atmosphere of The Knick in the first season, the second season allows for a deepening of the tonally anachronistic world."

THE KNICK: SEASON 2 - Original Television Soundtrack will release digitally on October 30 and on CD December 18. The ten-episode second season airs on Fridays from 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on Cinemax.

"In continuing THE KNICK I kept a time-honored Soderbergh/Martinez tradition that I like to call 'one thing,'" Martinez remarked. "I try very hard to score an entire scene using only one sound or instrument. It's difficult, and I usually end up cheating, but by limiting the number of elements, I'm always guaranteed an expressively minimalist and fat-free soundtrack. For all the new pieces the challenge was to stand alongside all the older material and not embarrass anyone."

In season 2 of The Knick, it's 1901 in New York City and The Knickerbocker Hospital faces an upheaval, as Dr. John Thackery's absence (due to his hospitalization for cocaine addiction), a dearth of affluent patients, and financial missteps have led to the board's decision to shutter The Knick in favor of a new building uptown. In this world of corruption, invention and progress, everyone is searching for the new path that will help him or her survive. Whether it's a path toward justice, freedom, love or just plain survival, nothing comes easy.

As relocation plans proceed, the gifted but under-appreciated Dr. Algernon Edwards jockeys to become Thackery's successor as chief of surgery, while fellow doctors, nurses, nuns and administrators grapple with challenges at work and in their private lives.

About Cliff Martinez
Perhaps it is because of his time in the punk scene playing for artists like the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee), The Weirdos, The Dickies, Lydia Lunch and Foetus frontman Jim Thirlwell, and the final incarnation of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band that composer Cliff Martinez's approach to scoring is nontraditional. His scores tend towards being stark and sparse, utilizing a modern tonal palette to paint the backdrop for films that are often dark, psychological stories like NARC (2002) SOLARIS (2002), THE LIMEY (2009) WONDERLAND (2003), WICKER PARK (2004), DRIVE (2011) ARBITRAGE (2012), SPRING BREAKERS (2013), THE COMPANY YOU KEEP (2013), and ONLY GOD FORGIVES (2013). He has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with director Steven Soderberg beginning with 1989s SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE and continued with such films as TRAFFIC, NARC, and CONTAGION. Martinez has been nominated for a Grammy Award (Steven Soderbergh's TRAFFIC), a Cesar Award (Xavier Giannoli's A L'ORIGINE), and a Broadcast Film Critics Award (DRIVE) and received the Richard Kirk Award from BMI. His recent projects include the HBO film THE NORMAL HEART and the French film MEA CULPA. His upcoming films include THE NEON DEMON for director Nicolas Winding Refn.
