Jay Douglas To Celebrate 40 Years In Music
Toronto, ON (Top40 Charts/ Cary Mignault Media Relations) In honour of over 40 years of immeasurable contribution to international music, the legendary Jay Douglas will be celebrated with an anniversary concert and tribute evening featuring a stunning roster of local and international artists. This musical marathon, Celebrating Jay, happens one night only on May 15, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at the Royal Theatre, located at 608 College Street, Toronto.

Under the distinguished patronage of Jamaica's Consul General Seth George Ramocan, a veritable who's who of talent has been assembled to pay tribute and honour Douglas, whose music has inspired generations of artists around the world. In a musical salute from his friends and peers, Celebrating Jay features world famous acts and musical pioneers such as Ernest Ranglin, Jackie Richardson, Joe Sealy, Eddie Bullen, Dubmatix (aka Jessie King), Bill King, Archie Alleyne, Bob & Wisdom, George Oliver, Shawn & Jay Jackson, Grant Smith, Diana Salvatore, and many others who will perform in this evening extravaganza. "It's such an honour to have this community of people who inspire me come together for this celebration," said Douglas. "We are not only celebrating the music but this wonderful country and this wonderful city. When we come together we make magic, and what happens is love."

Celebrating Jay is surely not to be missed by any fan of reggae or Caribbean music as local Toronto talent and Caribbean legends come together for one night only to pay tribute to a man who helped put Toronto's reggae movement on the international music map.

Tickets for Celebrating Jay are $45 ($90 includes post-show VIP reception with the artists) and are available by phone at 416-538-0889. Tickets can also be purchased at A Different Booklist, 746 Bathurst Street, 416-538-0889; Wire's Variety, 753 Dovercourt Road, 647-435-0172; through the Jamaican National Money Transfer Office, 1672 Eglinton Avenue West, 416-784-2075; by email money transfer or through the Royal Theatre box office on May 15 (after 1:00 p.m.) This event is produced by SWA Associates and is sponsored by International Money Transfer, for information about the event call 416-573-1375.
For over 40 years, Douglas has been a singer of enormous talent who not only helped to forge Toronto's emerging reggae and R & B music scene of the '60s and '70s, but whose unstoppable voice and prowess on the stage continues to be one of the most significant and relevant contributors to Canada's music landscape. As a pioneering member of the Cougars, Douglas was a foremost member of Toronto's reggae scene, and through the Jamaica to Toronto project (Light in the Attic Records, 2006) he was instrumental in bringing an immeasurable focus to the forgotten champions of Toronto's '60s and early '70s reggae legacy.

With a brand new CD, Lover's Paradise (Mega City Music) Douglas shows no signs of slowing down, and that magical voice seems to just keep improving with age.
