Boston (Dovecote/RED Ink) - For the four unassuming guys in ABERDEEN CITY, you'd be tempted to think they have a life of music under their belt. With their debut album The Freezing Atlantic on Dovecote/RED Ink (release date: August 8th), these Bostonians are ready to present a sound so fluid and cohesive, you'd never guess they graduated from college just a few years back. They've managed to leap ahead and create an album of dark, melodic, and layered epic soundscapes.

"This is just the beginning of the story," says singer/bassist Brad Parker. "We have been working together as a band for some time now, working at making our music better and stronger." With recent tours supporting peers like Elefant, Sound Team, and Murder By Death, and an upcoming tour with Electric Six (tour dates below), Aberdeen City will undoubtedly be winning over audiences from coast to coast.?

From the soaring elegiac sing-along "Pretty Pet" to the ringing guitars and spaciousness of "Brighton" to the meanderingly intricate melodies of "In Combat", The Freezing Atlantic is a cohesive collection of songs whose music recalls the complexity of British indie bands like Muse or James, while giving nod to Stateside compatriots Rasputina and Interpol. The first single (and groundbreaking video) "God Is Going To Get Sick of Me" is an infectious and effortless display with a propulsive bassline and searing guitars.?

Adding a thumbprint into the mix to make sure the guys sound their best, uber-producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Talking Heads) took the reins for two songs, "God Is Going To Get Sick of Me" and "Another Seven Years", and Nic Hard (The Bravery, The Church, Jesse Malin) handled the rest. "Steve was great and I mean that," explains Brad. "He has produced bands we love like Talking Heads, U2, Pogues, Morrissey and in the studio he was a master. His hand was not too heavy nor did he seem like he had an agenda with us. He let me, as the singer, do my thing, but pushed me in new directions. It felt more like coaching than anything."

Both Lillywhite and Hard helped in augmenting the overall sound of The Freezing Atlantic, an album that defies comparisons and genres, while still remaining extremely accessible and immediate.??"There is a lot mystery ahead," replies Brad about Aberdeen City's undoubtedly exciting future. "It has only been a few months since I quit my day job, so I feel as though I am fighting to extend this opportunity to support myself with music... which means I want to work! I want the chance to give myself to a life of music and see what unfolds." Looks like his job is cut out for him.
