Desert Tundra Takes Scene By Storm With "Virginia"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Rock band Desert Tundra released their breakout single, Virginia, a cutting alternative ballad reminiscent of nineties rock. The track is an explosive work of sonic beauty with infectious hooks that grab you immediately. Virginia is now available on iTunes and Spotify.

With a blend of clean grizzly guitar work, Virginia is a rock ballad that immediately seizes the ears upon the first listen. Written in homage to front woman, Janet Jelenas home of Virginia, the single is about pushing forward in the face of adversity. I wrote the song as an ode to my home state as well as the journey I was about to begin, which I knew was not going to be an easy road to follow, Jelena comments. As she repeats the chorus, Dear Virginia, whered you go? her voice navigates a flutter of clean guitar strums and sound effects played in reverse. The track builds to a climactic guitar solo that recalls the alternative heyday of Veruca Salt. Virginia was recorded and mixed by Sejo Navajas at 4TH Street Recording in Los Angeles, CA, produced by Jim Ebert, and mastered by Don Corrieri at Phuturetrax, Los Angeles.

Desert Tundra is the alt-rock moniker of Los Angeles based, singer and guitarist Janet Jelena. Jelena grew up in the small town of Herndon, VA, a northern suburb of Washington, DC. As a child of the 90s, she turned to rock, punk and Riot Grrrl icons like Hole, Bikini Kill and Le Tigre for their message and passion. Her love of music continued to grow and at the age of 15, she picked up her first guitar - a used Fender Stratocaster. Feeling a strong pull to follow music one hundred percent, Jelena packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles. Sleeping in her car and staying in sketchy hotels to save money, Jelena hit the ground running when she arrived in Los Angeles, quickly putting together a backing band of local players and working on new material.

With expert musicianship and cool vocals, Desert Tundras breakout single truly encapsulates the polarity of their namesake. Though the inspiration of this song is clearly lifted from 90s alternative, the result is as timeless as it is addicting. For more information check out Facebook.com/DesertTundra.
