I had a love before who told me things I did believe, but I was never sure
It was in his eyes that I denied the truth; instead I chose to believe the lies
I was under a spell but I liked the way it made me feel so I could never tell
That I was so unwise to give him all my love when I knew it wouldn’t last

I have seen a momentary love
But you and I will always stay
There have been too many for too long
And the promises that don’t remain
Become a love before

I gave my heart before, to a man who couldn’t see that to him I’d have given the world
And although I tried, he turned away my best and still I stayed along for the ride
Why couldn’t I tell that all he had to give was a lesson that I learned too well?
And I was so unwise to give him all my love and to think that it would last

When you came into my life, I finally felt like I got it right, got it right
Although it took some time, every love before led me to you
