Biography
Kjetil By was born November 17, 1969 in Orkdal, Norway. He bought his first guitar at the age of 13 and played in some local bands in the Troendelag region of Norway. Studies later brought him to the regional capital, Trondheim, as well as landing the guitar player position in a few further bands there.
Eventually he decided to continue as a solo artist, and the first full album to his own name, “No Protectionâ€, saw the light in 1996. While this was a low budget release, it gave him a good start and some encouraging feedback from music enthusiasts in various corners of the world.
His sophomore effort, “Natural High†(2001), took a slightly different course, musically and otherwise, as it was recorded entirely at home and involved a female guest lead singer on a few tracks.
The next half decade or so yielded the occasional solo demo recording, as well as working with a few other musicians, but it took him until 2008 to get his third solo album done.
“Unrequited Love†was a substantial development in all respects and was met with enthusiasm on the European AOR scene. It seems that upping the ante in terms of involving true professionals such as Steinar Krokstad, Morten Skaget, Claudia Scott, Bente Smaavik and Trond Hustad, really does pay off on the musical results!
In 201, he again started working on new material, this time choosing to involve lyricist Claudia Scott on all of the album’s songs. Wanting to elevate the music to a higher level, he also approached Robin Beck to do lead vocals, and Robin truly put her heart and soul into it, as did her husband, James Christian, adding harmonies and lush vocal co-production to the project.
Some of his favourite Norwegian musicians added their magic, too: Steinar Krokstad, Morten Skaget and Dag Selboskar take a bow! Kjetil By featuring Robin Beck - “Better Days†- officially released on the 20th of February 2014!
