Biography
Johannes Hendricus Maria "Jan" Smit (born December 31, 1985) is a Dutch pop music and schlager singer. He scored his first number one position in the Dutch charts with Ik zing dit lied voor jou alleen (I sing this song only for you) in 1997. Being 12 years of age back then, he was known as Jantje Smit. Smit was discovered by Dutch middle of the road band BZN, who used his vocals in a duet called Mama. He has released several albums in Dutch and German since.

2012 has been the year wherein Kraantje Pappie in Holland as well as in Belgium had his breakthrough with his debut album “Craneâ€. His first mixtape appeared four years earlier, the “Clubvoer Mixtapeâ€, with a sold-out release-party in the Simplon in his hometown Groningen. A year earlier, in 2009 he had already been signed at the hiphop label Noah’s Ark where his second EP “Boulimia†came out which was licensed by Universal, with again a sold-out release-party in the Simplon.
