Biography
Dej Loaf is a female rapper from the East Side of Detroit, Michigan who’s currently signed to Columbia Records. Her Hip Hop name comes from her real name Deja, and her love for loafers (shoes). Dej Loaf claims to be a sneakerhead which explains why her first mixtape was titled “Just Do It†(Nike Slogan). Dej Loaf attended Saginaw Valley State University in 2010 for 3 semesters, but later dropped out to pursue her rap career.
Try Me is arguably Dej Loaf’s biggest hit to date, the video was released on youtube at the end of September 2014 and received millions of views within one month. The song, though sung with an RNB melody, had grimy/gangster lyrics which fans enjoyed. The song was different than those put out by other popular female rappers such as Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj due to its gangster lyrics. At the time of its release, few known female rappers were talking about catching bodies like Dej Loaf.
