Biography

Afrojack, aka Nick van de Wall is a Grammy Award-winning DJ from Spijkenisse, The Netherlands. He has gone from strength to strength since starting his own label Wall Recordings back in 2007 which soon accelerated a collection of quality releases from Don't Be to Proper Introduction and Thief. In his field, Afrojack soon became considered as a genius producer and embarked on a series of collaborations with international artists such as David Guetta, Diplo, Kid Cudi, Laidback Luke and Steve Angello to name but a few.

Mike Taylor is a Philadelphia born artist who fuses pieces of pop culture with intelligent lyrics and infectious melodies. Although primarily a singer and writer, he utilizes an array of mediums to uplift and inspire his audiences. A griot who brings his unique perspective to his art, he transgresses boundaries. The celebratory nature of the work is both an invitation into the artist's world as well as an invitation to let go, whether for the duration of a song or the lasting feeling you take with you after a live performance.

Born to a jazz musician father, music has been a constant presence in Mike's life. Mike spent his early years developing his skills as an entertainer by performing in various groups whose musical styles ran the gamut from hip-hop to jazz to rock. Continuing this spirit of collaboration, he also participated in a theater dance company. Seeking to create more opportunities to perform and bring people together, Mike started throwing and promoting parties around the city that showcased the variety of talent and creativity that Philadelphia had to offer. From this a scene began to develop and take hold that embodied a grassroots driven, socially progressive and welcoming aesthetic. This served as an incubator for artistic daringness. The distinct sound of his music and the growing fan base accrued as a result of these gatherings led to increased exposure on the national stage.

Looking to the vanguard of artists and thinkers who exist on the margins, Mike admires those who are unafraid to chart new waters and provoke. He draws inspiration from diverse sources, whether it is music from artists like The Roots and Paul Simon, or thinkers like Malcolm Gladwell. Other influences include the comedic stylings of Richard Pryor and the visual beauty of Basquiat. These influences spring forth big Peter Gabriel-esque vocals, anthemic choruses, and uptempo danceable beats that are enriched with nostalgia. Although the 80’s aesthetic of new wave and electro have a strong presence, at any given time Mike makes a point of highlighting his formidable rap skills. His background in hip-hop continues to show even as he takes you on a genre bending journey.

Mike Taylor aims to create a space from the stage that unites the audience and performer alike in an electrified atmosphere. His music is evocative, and he hopes to leave people inspired. Propelling himself towards continual innovation, he is passionate about raising the bar in his artistry. His dedication to his craft and the undeniable power of his songs ensures that he will be leaving his mark on pop culture.
