Biography

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (born 16 February 1990), known by his stage name, The Weeknd (pronounced "the weekend"), is an Ethiopian-Canadian singer, songwriter and record producer. Tesfaye anonymously uploaded several songs to YouTube under the name "The Weeknd" in 2010 and released the critically acclaimed mixtapes House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence in 2011. The mixtapes were later remastered and rereleased on the compilation album Trilogy (2012), after he signed with Republic Records and created his own record label XO.
Tesfaye has had two number-one albums Beauty Behind the Madness in 2015 and Starboy in 2016. Tesfaye has also had a top-two release Kiss Land in 2013 on the US Billboard 200. His first extended play My Dear Melancholy, was released in 2018. He has earned eight top-ten entries on the Billboard Hot 100: "Love Me Harder" with Ariana Grande, "Earned It", "I Feel It Coming", "Pray for Me" with Kendrick Lamar, "Call Out My Name", and the number one singles "The Hills", "Can't Feel My Face", and "Starboy". In 2015, Tesfaye became the first artist to simultaneously hold the top three positions on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart with "Can't Feel My Face", "Earned It", and "The Hills". Tesfaye has won three Grammy Awards and nine Juno Awards.

Mike Lévy, (born 1985; Lyon, France) better known as Gesaffelstein, is a French techno artist and DJ. He has worked alongside, and remixed tracks for such artists as varied as The Weeknd, Tiga, Miss Kittin, A$AP Rocky, Lana Del Rey and Phoenix. He produced two tracks on Yeezus, the sixth album of American rapper Kanye West, including the lead single "Black Skinhead" and "Send It Up", both tracks produced with Kanye West, Daft Punk, Brodinski and Mike Dean. Gesaffelstein released his debut album Aleph on October 28, 2013 under Bromance Records, OWSLA, Parlophone Records and EMI Music, which had been recorded since 2011. His remix of "Shockwave" by The Hacker is featured in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V, on the Soulwax FM radio station. In 2015 Gesaffelstein released a single titled "Conquistador" with Jean-Michel Jarre and also produced the soundtrack for the 2015 film Maryland. In 2018 he produced "I Was Never There" and "Hurt You" from The Weeknd's My Dear Melancholy, EP.
