New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Royal Wigs official website) Baltimore-based alternative country outfit The Royal Wigs announced this week via their Facebook page that they were moving forward with plans to record their debut album.
According to Royal Wigs singer Joe Black, the album will prominently feature the lap and pedal steel playing of Philadelphia-based musician Mike "Slo-Mo" Brenner. Brenner is noted for his work with groups such as Jason Molina, Magnolia Electric Co, G. Love and Special Sauce, and Badly Drawn Boy.
Beyond this, Black noted that although the album would certainly be rooted in the band's signature alt/Americana sound, it would also push the envelope artistically. "I think you saw a little bit of this on our EP with songs like 'Oh, My Soul'...we hope to push the sonic envelope a little bit."
The group will be recording at Orion Studios in Baltimore, MD, and mixing in the NYC area.
The band has also booked a 19 July one-off at Pianos in New York City.
