MARIO FRANGOULIS, the beloved international Greek tenor returns to his homeland for a very special piano~voice recital in honor of the opening of an international conference on the environment. His all Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, knowledgeable on environmental issues, will attend the recital at the historic Herod Atticus Theatre at the Acropolis.
The Patriarch will speak at its opening and at the conference, which will be attended by experts, scientistis, Nobel Laureates and dignitaries from all over Europe. This first of a kind event has been organized under the auspices of the Biomedical Research Foundation (https://www.bioacademy.gr), a division of the Academy of Athens, and is supported by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
Together, for the first time, with maestro and pianist EUGENE KOHN,
Mario Frangoulis will perform the great works of Scarlatti, Bononcini, Stradella, as well as songs by Francesco
Paolo Tosti and known arias by Handel, Gluck, Bellini, Verdi and Puccini.
Greece's beloved tenor will also pay tribute to the great composers of his own country, singing the great works of Yannis Markopoulos, Stavros Xarhakos, Mikis Theodorakis and
Manos Hadjidakis. These works will include «Axion Esti» by Nobel winning poet Odysseus Elytis, «Thiteia» by
Manos Eleutheriou, «Erotokritos and Aretousa» by Vincenzo Kornaros, «Magnus Eroticus» poems by Sappho, the poetry of C.P. Cavafy, Dionysios Solomos, and «Aspro Peristeri» («White Dove») by Nikos Gatsos. There will also be a special tribute to Mikis Theodorakis who will sing an excerpt from
Pablo Neruda's masterpiece «Canto General» in a new arrangement written for this recital.

Eugene Kohn has enjoyed incredible collaborations which began with
Maria Callas at her famed «Master Classes» at the Julliard School of
Music in New York, launching his career as one of the most sought-after maestros in the world. He has conducted in some of the most prestigious orchestras in Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, Barcelona, and of course at New York's famed Metropolitan Opera. Maestro Kohn has worked with
Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi,
Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo (for the last 25 years), and recently with
Andrea Bocelli and
Sarah Brightman in the Classical Crossover genre, where
Mario Frangoulis also launched his international career.
