New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) Downtown
Music Publishing has signed an administration agreement for North
America with award-winning singer, songwriter, and film-composer Randy Newman. The signing was announced today by Downtown's President, Justin Kalifowitz.
Randy Newman is an inductee of both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the winner of two Academy Awards, three Emmys, six Grammys, an Ivor Novello, and most recently, a PEN New England Song Lyrics of Literary
Excellence Award.
Downtown's agreement covers Newman's catalog from 1977's
Little Criminals forward, including such hit singles as "Short People" (Little Criminals), "The Blues" and "I Love LA" (both from Trouble in Paradise), and "It's Money that Matters" (Land of Dreams).
"The
Randy Newman songbook transcended generations and inspired countless songwriters, artists and composers," said Kalifowitz. "We are truly honored to represent this timeless catalog and welcome such a beloved songwriter to the Downtown roster."
On July 1, 2014,
Randy Newman led a one-night-only performance of his famed 1995 musical Faust at New York City Center. The performance, directed by
Thomas Kail (In the Heights), featured Newman starring as the Devil.
He is currently writing songs for a new album that his label of the past decade, Nonesuch Records, will release.
