Old 97's, Polyphonic Spree, Soul Rebels Highlight Brooklyn Bowl August Lineup
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) Brooklyn Bowl - "one of the most incredible places on Earth" according to Rolling Stone - will welcome alt-country rock mainstays Old 97's, psychedlic choral pop collective the Polyphonic Spree, and New Orleans power-funk jazz hybrids the funky METERS and Soul Rebels as part of their August lineup.

Old 97's - Wed, Aug 6 & Thurs, Aug 7
To say that rock and roll has been good to the Old 97's would be an understatement (guitarist/vocalist Miller, bassist/vocalist Murry Hammond, guitarist Ken Bethea, and drummer Philip Peeples). The band emerged from Dallas twenty years ago at the forefront of a musical movement blending rootsy, country-influenced songwriting with punk rock energy and delivery (show: 8pm, admission: $17).

funky METERS - Fri, Aug 8 & Sat, Aug 9
In their 31-year history, New Orleans Jazz outfit the funky METERS have grooved their way around the globe -- having toured with such artists like The Rolling Stones, and served as the studio band for such diverse musicians such as Dr. John, Paul McCartney, Robert Palmer, and Patti Labelle (show: 8pm admission: $20).

Donavon Frankenreiter - Wed, Aug 13
To create his fifth full-length album 'Start Livin', Hawaii-based singer/guitarist/songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter holed up in a Southern California studio for seven days with his longtime bassist Matt Grundy—and no one else. Frankenreiter's rich, honey-thick vocals and masterful guitar work bears all the intimacy of an impromptu back-porch performance and the tenderness of a treasured love letter (show: 8pm admission: $10-12).

The Soul Rebels - Fri, Aug 15
The Soul Rebels bring together horns, drums, and a party atmosphere to build a new brass experience that pays its respects to the New Orleans jazz tradition. Though the group scattered to various cities after Hurricane Katrina, they come together frequently to tour as a band and honor their roots. Special guest to be announced (show: 8pm admission: $15).

Hieroglyphics - Thurs, Aug 21
Founded in 1997 in Oakland, CA, Hieroglyphics established themselves as a name in underground hip-hop, and released their first collective project 'Third Eye Vision.' Since then, the Hiero team has been thriving in the hip-hop world, releasing a number of projects within the label as well as branching out for collaborations with the likes of Jurassic 5, George Clinton, Dilated Peoples, Q-Tip, Xzibit and Gorillaz (show: 8pm admission: $20).

Polyphonic Spree - Tues, Aug 26

When the "gloriously exuberant" (NPR) Polyphonic Spree take the stage, "every song sound[s] like an anthem" (Dallas Morning News). The 22-piece Dallas collective is set to release 'Psychphonic' - a remix LP of their current album, 'Yes, It's True' - midway through their coast-to coast tour on August 12th, (Good Records Recordings/Kirtland Records), but the EP will be available for purchase at all of their summer shows. (show: 8pm admission: $15-18).

Turkuaz - Wed, Aug 27
Turkuaz is a 9-piece power funk army hailing from Brooklyn, NY whose modern twist on the classic sound has placed them at the forefront of a new funk evolution. With the obvious influences—Parliament, Sly & The Family Stone, Rick James and Earth, Wind & Fire—as the basis for a recipe, Turkuaz adds healthy doses of jittery, world-pop-dance groove—reminiscent of Remain In Light era Talking Heads—and a passion for Motown and R&B into the mix (show: 8pm, admission: $12).
