New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ ER:M+M) With five shows remaining from their 16 date European Tour, Palenke Soultribe present an exciting new digital EP called "
Versus" available now in all digital outlets. This EP revisits Colombia's musical history and picks up classic African-Colombian sounds from the masters of Palenque at San Basilio.
Palenke Soultribe used the original recording sessions and reworked the tracks to create new songs, using a more contemporary aesthetic and grouping these songs in a 6-song block for a new generation of audiences.
"
Versus" features musical sampling from Batata (Master of Alegre), Son Palenque, Colombiafrica and Sexteto Tabalá, some of the most significant artists of this unique Caribbean music style that they have inherited and which is passed down from one generation to the next.
The recording sessions were made posible thanks to
Lucas Silva, founder of Palenque Records, a Colombian "World Music" label, that features several of Latin America's most important African music artists. Its artists are undoubtedly the pillars of what is nowadays known as cumbia, tambora and champeta. This label has earned international acclaim and has developed a strong presence in
Europe and the United States.
Palenke Soultribe, a band that is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, has taken electronic music to unexplored levels through experimentation with Afro-Colombian rhythms, which they mix with electronic sounds, catchy background vocals and synthesizers.
