A book of out-of-the-ordinary tales, funny and bittersweet' "The
Music Business & the Monkey Business: Recollections" (published by Archway Publishing) by Lynn and Larry Elgart, chronicles the rollercoaster ride of the couple's more than 70 years in the music business.
Although Les became the more familiar name of the two brothers, this book reveals for the first time that Les Elgart woke up one morning to find that he was famous and had nothing to do with his success. Readers will encounter colorful characters and celebrities, brotherly sacrifice and the ups and downs Larry's life dealt him as he adapted to maintain relevancy in the ever-changing music industry. Lynn adds to driving force that makes it happen.
"Hooked on Swing" became the largest selling swing/big-band record in the '80s - selling more than two million copies. Larry went from the number-one college prom favorite in the '50s to an overnight sensation at age 60.
An excerpt from "The
Music Business & the Monkey Business":
"I wrote Bandstand Boogie, the theme for American Bandstand, before Dick Clark inherited it and before
Barry Manilow wrote lyrics. American Bandstand ran on TV for over 50 years."
