New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The folks over at Taste of Country caught the vibe immediately when they heard the latest single from Warner Bros. Records recording artist Ashley Monroe: "Fans can hear
Ashley Monroe smiling as she sings her new song 'On to Something Good.'"
Monroe is indeed all smiles as she releases the first track from her forthcoming album to radio this week. "On to Something Good" is a groovy, feel-great song that reflects where the 28-year-old singer-songwriter is at this moment - and it's a pretty blissful place. "This song speaks to where I am in my life and who I am," says Monroe. "I'll get knocked down again. I got knocked down recently. And as long as we're living, things are going to happen that will bring us to our knees and you wonder how 'will I ever get through this?' And that's not going to stop as long as we're alive. I've learned that in these 28 years. But I've learned you can't get stuck in those bad times. If I'm alive and breathing, I'm not supposed to be stuck feeling sorry for myself. I'm supposed to keep going to whatever I'm going for, which I believe is something good."
Her highly regarded debut album, 2013's Like A Rose was fueled with several songs of heartbreak and sadness, and anyone familiar with her backstory - her father's untimely death, a shelved debut album - knows the experiences relayed in those songs were hard-earned. "On To Something Good" signals a new direction for Monroe and reflects a fairy-tale run that's included her marriage to
Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks, professional success in her solo career and membership in the country super girl group
Pistol Annies with
Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley.
The song, produced by
Vince Gill and Justin Niebank, arrives at radio just a few weeks after Monroe scored her first No. 1 hit, the "
Lonely Tonight" duet with close friend and label mate
Blake Shelton. "Lost and found, I'm better dancing when I don't look down," Monroe sings in the song, written with Barry Dean and Luke Laird. "Hard times roll up but they don't hang around/I feel like I'm on to something good."
She'll be hitting the road later this month with the
Vince Gill and
Friends Tour on March 19th and
Miranda Lambert's Certified Platinum Tour beginning March 26th. She'll also be making select festival appearances and joining
Little Big Town for their 2015 Summer Tour.
