New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Berklee College of
Music today announced the start of the Berklee Summer in the City concert series, which includes more than 300 free outdoor music performances throughout Metro Boston. The series, sponsored by Natixis Global Asset Management, one of the world's largest asset managers, culminates with the free BeanTown Jazz Festival on
September 26, where Natixis will present a $5,000 scholarship to a student musician. The full concert schedule, including location details, is available at berklee.edu/events/summer.
"Our five-year partnership with Berklee College of
Music has provided various opportunities to bring the community together and celebrate the power of music," said John Hailer, chief executive officer of Natixis Global Asset Management for the Americas and Asia. "The Summer in the City concert series is a wonderful way to experience the wealth of diverse talent at Berklee."
The Berklee Summer in the City concerts bring neighborhoods alive with free programs of pop, rock, jazz, Latin, electronic, and more presented by some of Berklee's most promising young artists. The Boston-area concerts take place in vibrant destinations throughout the city from the
Institute of Contemporary Art, the Rose Kennedy Greenway, the
Boston Harbor Islands, and the Lawn on D to communities with strong cultural identities ranging from
Jamaica Plain and Roxbury to East
Boston and the South End. Just outside of Boston, audiences can take in free shows in locations like Chestnut Hill, Harvard Square's Longfellow House and Club Passim, Salem's Derby Square, the Charlestown Navy Yard, Carson Beach, and more.
On
September 26, the 2015 Summer in the City series comes to a close with Boston's biggest block party. Spanning six blocks on the Roxbury-South End border beginning at Massachusetts Avenue, the BeanTown Jazz Festival features three stages of live performances, family activities, and booths with crafts and food. The festival, now in its 15th year, is free and open to the public.
For the fifth year, the Summer in the City series is sponsored by Natixis Global Asset Management. This partnership aligns with the firm's Jazz Ambassador Project, which involves a series of events celebrating jazz and community partnerships seeking to use the power of jazz to give back to local communities through funding and thought leadership. The Jazz Ambassador Project includes the continuation of a $5,000 scholarship presented by Natixis to a student musician at the BeanTown Jazz Festival.
