New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Acclaimed folk singer Jonathan Edwards has shared his new recording of the classic American traditional "Mole In The Ground". The track is now streaming on The Bluegrass Situation. Originally popularized by Bascom Lamar Lunsford in 1928, Edwards' take on the song is enhanced by famed guitarist Joe Walsh, who wrote a new arrangement for the song and contributes mandolin to the track.
Edwards will release his new album Tomorrow's Child on June 23rd - the latest in a career that spans over 4 decades of musical inspiration, beginning with his Vietnam-era crossover pop hit "
Sunshine" in 1971. Produced by celebrated acoustic master Darrell Scott, Edwards' performances on the album are backed by additional noted names including Vince Gill, Shawn Colvin, Joe Walsh, John Cowan, Jerry
Douglas and Kenny Malone among others. Edwards recently premiered the title track on Allmusic, which features vocal contributions from Alison Krauss.
Sharing his thoughts on "Mole In The Ground", Edwards writes "It's a song that is very much a product of the troubadour tradition with every new version sporting a new verse or a new level of communication or just a different interpretation to carry forward to the people of the next town".
Edwards has also announced the "In The Round" tour with Marshall Crenshaw and Garland Jeffreys from
September 9th-18th, an exclusive series of shows uniting the three renowned songwriters. The tour tops off Edwards' extensive 2015 touring schedule. See below for a full list of dates.
Ultimately it is Edwards' own heart-on-the-sleeve delivery that makes Tomorrow's Child so compelling. Edwards reveals on the haunting "Jonny's Come Home" that not only was he adopted as an infant, but before his music career took off, he was forced to put his own child up for adoption as well. "I was adopted at the age of 9 months, and the cover photo of this album was taken by my adoptive mother on that very day," Edwards said. "'Jonny's Come Home' was born out of my efforts to deal with the myriad of emotions that come with these separations and the instant comfort I felt after reuniting with both my mother and my daughter, Brenda."
