The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra Celebrates 20 Years In Devou Park With Its Family-Friendly Concert Series
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra continues a 75-year tradition of fun, family-gatherings at the band shell in Covington's Devou Park. This summer's programs extend the KSO's efforts to enlighten, entertain and educate through great music and nostalgia. Over the course of the three programs, the KSO will perform 63 musical selections including pop, swing and Broadway that will have crowds dancing and singing along.

On July 11, The KSO's studio orchestra and vocalists play the "Hits of the Big Red Machine Era" (1970-76). As Hall of Famers Sparky Anderson, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Tony Perez were making Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium a stage for four World Series appearances, the pop music world was a buzz with Queen, Barry Manilow, KC & the Sunshine Band, The Bee Gees, The Doobie Brothers & Ray Stevens. Interesting baseball / pop music trivia will abound like — Which superstar rocker has played in three MLB stadiums in the same city?

The Swing Revival returns to Devou Park on August 1, when the KSO's newest subsidiary group — The Covington Devou-Doo Daddies (named after the park) cover the great, high-energy tunes of 1990s swing bands: Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Brian Setzer, Cherry Poppin' Daddies and the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Those who still hoof a mean jitterbug are encouraged to bring their dancin' shoes and be ready to sing the call and response choruses — "Go Daddy-O"

The Battle of Broadway ensues Labor Day weekend (September 5) as the KSO pits the songs of Stephen Sondheim vs Andrew Lloyd Webber. Broadway veterans Pamela Myers (Company, Into the Woods) and Jessica Hendy (Cats) headline as the KSO offers songs from 16 hit musicals including Sondheim's A Little Night Music, Anyone Can Whistle, Company, Follies, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd and Webber's Cats, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Song & Dance, Star Light Express and Sunset Boulevard and more.

"This summer's shows again offer up-beat nostalgia for the multiple generations who attend. The KSO's quality performances and programming variety continue to engage people of all walks of life. We make both music and memories at these outdoor shows under the stars", said KSO Music Director, James Cassidy.

The Orchestra thanks new sponsors St. Elizabeth Physicians and U.S. Bank who join Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America, Macy's, Strauss Troy, Attorneys at Law and Fischer Homes in supporting the 2015 Summer Series. Their generosity covers just under 50% of the orchestra's production costs. Donations are welcome.

All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. and are held rain or shine. Parking is free throughout the park. T.A.N.K. shuttles run from Covington Catholic to the band shell from 6:00 -7:30 p.m. Cost: $1 each way. Bring blankets or lawn chairs. No tickets or advanced reservations required. Additional information can be found by visiting kyso.org

About the KSO:
The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra takes the "phony" out of symphony through live thematic concerts that culturally enrich, educate and entertain the residents of Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. The KSO performs throughout Northern Kentucky performing three series of concerts.
