New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Curtis Nowosad is thrilled to announce his Canadian tour, in support of his critically-acclaimed sophomore album Dialectics, on the Cellar Live label, released on March 17, 2015.
Although Nowosad has already performed at some of Canada's most prominent festivals and venues, such as the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, and the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, this tour will be his first journey across the country with consecutive dates from coast-to-coast. Nowosad couldn't be more excited to share the music from this album but also to bring audiences into the unpredictable fire of his superb quintet. He says: "This group has a very special chemistry and I can't wait to share this music with audiences across the country."
Curtis Nowosad Quintet features Nowosad on drums, Derrick Gardner on trumpet, Steve Kirby on bass, Will Bonness on piano and Jon
Gordon on alto saxophone. The quintet will perform selections from Dialectics, a collection of original compositions by Nowosad, as well as selected interpretations of music by Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, and Mercer/Schertzinger. The album continues to receive wonderful reviews ("Every single cut on this production was a tribute to Nowosad's profundity as a drummer/composer." -LAJazz.com) and radio chart action that includes reaching the top ten on both the !earshot and CMJ charts, as well as spending ten weeks on the JazzWeek charts in the United States.
Based in New York, where he recently received a Masters of
Music and was a Fellow of the Jazz
Institute at Manhattan School of Music, Nowosad is a native Winnipegger who is recognised as one of the artists to watch out for in jazz today. He has received several awards and scholarships such as the Keep an Eye Jazz Award at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam and he was twice selected to participate in the Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead Residency at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
The Curtis Nowosad Quintet Canadian Tour kicks off on Friday June 19, 2015 at the Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, and then will cross Canada with performances in seven cities, with a final stop on the east coast in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 10, 2015, at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival.
