NEW YORK (AP) - Living End vocalist and guitarist Chris Cheney was involved in a near-fatal car crash on Saturday (September 22) in his home country of Australia. He and his partner, Emma, were traveling down to Airey's Inlet when an oncoming car came down the wrong side of Great Ocean Road in Victoria.
The car collided with Cheney's car, and the impact ripped off the side of the vehicle and sent Cheney and Emma spiraling off the road and down an embankment where it hit a tree.

The other driver struck two other cars in head-on collisions shortly after. He walked away unharmed.

According to a statement by the band's record company, Cheney is extremely lucky to be alive, and if he hadn't swerved at the last minute he wouldn't have been so fortunate. He is currently hospitalized in stable condition. Emma sustained only minor injuries.
