New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Riding a wave of critical raves and burgeoning fan support for its latest album, Wolves, North Carolina's high-octane American Aquarium hits the road for a new set of dates that will have the sextet rocking coast to coast and even across the pond well into the fall.
The 73-date world tour begins July 24 at the Myrtle Beach, S.C., House of Blues, and features performances in 32 states before the group crosses the Atlantic for a run of shows beginning November 12, with stops in Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium.
"This record has completely rejuvenated us and we are so excited for folks to finally get to see the songs in a live setting. The band has never been tighter and the fact that this group of guys have played 2000+ shows together over the last decade only secures our place as one of the hardest touring bands out there," BJ Barham, the band's frontman says.
"We'll be bringing back a lot of songs from the back catalog on this tour, too. Every night is a different set, something we have never done before. It feels like it did when we first started playing shows back in 2006."
The dates continue the campaign for Wolves, the band's recent independently released eighth album, which left critics spellbound and is the follow-up to the band 2012's acclaimed Burn. Flicker. Die.
Barham declares Wolves "the sound of a band firing on all cylinders," and he certainly shares a consensus opinion. Upon its February release, The Wall Street Journal celebrated Wolves' "ten scruffy songs shot through with an abundance of roots-rock grit and wistful, road-worn lyrics," while Paste called the set "ten songs of the chaotic battle within, unvarnished truths about sacrifice, addiction, aging, big dreams and the ever-present fear of failure." Entertainment Weekly singled out the track "Man I'm Supposed to Be" as "recalling Springsteen's more tender moments, while Country Weekly noted that the track has "the comfortable, lived-in feeling of a favorite pair of boots."
American Aquarium formed during 2006 in Raleigh, N.C., taking its name from the
Wilco song "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" and catching ears with its 2006 debut
Antique Heart. The group quickly earned a reputation as tireless road warriors, playing 250 dates, or more, per year. The Jason Isbell-produced Burn. Flicker. Die. was nominated for Best Americana/Roots Album and Best Album Artwork in the 2013 Lone Star
Music Awards.
