NEW YORK (AP) - At least 30 Latin artists have been confirmed to participate in the recording of "El
Ultimo Adios," a song honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross and United Way.
Gloria Estefan, Chayanne, Thalia,
Carlos Vives, Celia Cruz, Juan Luis Guerra, Jaci Velasquez, La Ley, Elvis Crespo, and
Luis Fonsi are among those who will go to studios in Miami, Puerto Rico, New York, Texas, and Mexico on
Thursday (Sept. 27) to record the track, which was written by
Emilio Estefan and Gian Marco.
El Puma, Jose Feliciano, Victor Manuelle, Gisselle, and Melina Leon are also tipped to participate in the sessions.
The single will be released as a CD from Sony that will sell for $10 and will include the group version, a Spanish version (performed by Marco), and an English version performed by Jon Secada, who also wrote the English lyrics. Sony will donate the first 100,000 pressings, and Spanish-language TV network Univision will donate air time to promote the recording.
