New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The D'Addario Foundation, a nonprofit funded by D'Addario & Company, the world's largest maker of instrument strings and music accessories, is continuing its tradition of supporting music instruction-focused nonprofit organizations by awarding its biannual grants. 77 organizations, including notable programs such as Education through Music's New York City Ensemble Program, Chicago's The People's
Music School YOURS project, Kidznotes free orchestral instruction program, and the Musician's
Institute Drum and Guitar Scholarships will receive continued support amounting to a total of $125,000 in cash and $50,000 in product. The D'Addario Foundation has committed over $70,000 in cash and $30,000 in product to support a variety of new programs as well, including Artistas y Musicos
Latino Americanos,
Music In Urban Schools Inspiring Change, OrchKids Baltimore, and the Young
Strings Project.
The D'Addario Foundation and all of the programs funded believe in music as a vital part of a well-rounded education, that it promotes self-expression and self-confidence, and has a positive impact on academic achievement. Many of these programs also provide a safe haven for at-risk youth by providing consistent after-school instruction.
Organizations awarded the grants - such as United Sound, one of the newest grant recipients which provides meaningful music instruction for children with special needs - reinforce the Foundation's mission to create music-makers and support opportunities for individuals to express themselves through music. Many of these newer recipients can look forward to support throughout their growth in the future, as testified by
Margaret Martin, founder of the Harmony Project:
"D'Addario was one of our earliest sponsors, when we first launched Harmony Project in 2001 with fewer than fifty kids. . . Now that we have Harmony Project affiliates in seven states, 2,000 at-risk kids enrolled throughout Los Angeles' most challenged neighborhoods and two presidential awards under our belt, it's a thrill to know that D'Addario is still with us and has been with us from Day One."
The grants recently awarded are in addition to the $200,000 in cash and $90,000 in product that was awarded to a multitude of programs in January 2015.
For over 30 years, D'Addario has donated $10 million to The D'Addario Foundation to support over +250 music education programs worldwide including the Harmony Program, Rock to the Future, Austin Classical Guitar Society, Clarinets for Conservation and many more.
