ROME, Italy (Top40 Charts) - American Superstars sweeps up the big prizes in Rome yesterday while the European bands failed to make their mark at the 2004 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The vote process was being exclusively by European TV viewers, and clearly shows the crisis of the British Pop Music: British acts like Robbie Williams, Jamelia, Dido, The Streets and Franz Ferdinand had all been up for awards but walked away with nothing.

Last night, European MTV Awards just prove that the domination on different country charts by US stars isn't something passing. The biggest markets like Germany, Netherlands, Italy and France gives their full attention to the new music waves which are coming from North America (R&B, Nu-Rock) and of course this is not a nationalistic issue or the fall of media! It's about how people at Central Europe feel the music...

The host of this year's MTV Europe Music Awards was Xzibit and the ceremony, held in a huge tent at a racetrack on the outskirts of Rome (Italy).

Also for this year's EMAs - Usher and Alicia Keys united at the ceremony for an exclusive performance of their duet 'My Boo'. Also other stars were there: Black Eyed Peas, Jamelia, Robert Smith, Naomi Campbell, Brian McFadden, Eamon, Brian Molko, and AJ and Nick Carter from Backstreet Boys.
Britney Spears was Best Female Artist, The Black Eyed Peas were Best Pop Act and Linkin Park were Best Rock Act.
Alicia Keys won the Best R&B award, with D12 named Best Hip-Hop Act.
Eminem's s rap group D12 beat off competition from the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Nelly to triumph in the Best Hip-Hop category. Eminem told the audience: "D12 finally won an award, thank you very much."
