New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Photo agency auctions off thousands of vintage and rare images of the British music scene from the 1960s and 1970s which features some of the most legendary musicians and bands of all time.
"...it's hard to name just a few because there are so many impressive photos featuring so many different artists - you just have to see the entire collection," says van Gool.
Backstage Auctions is proud to present a historic and iconic photo archive auction featuring thousands of vintage and rare images of the British music scene from the 1960s and 1970s. The collection consists of well over 20,000 photo negatives, slides and transparencies featuring some of the most legendary musicians and bands of all time. The collection was once part of the core archive of London Features International (LFI), a London based photo agency that started in the 1960s.
The collection is well represented by various genres and spans 3 decades of music that ultimately transformed and created the history of rock, pop and punk music. "The entire catalog is impressive; however it's the rock and roll images that truly elevate this collection to peerless heights. In particular the thousands of never-before-seen photos of The
Rolling Stones and The Who is what makes this photo archive one for the ages," explains Backstage Auctions founder Jacques van Gool.
A large portion of the catalog are images from the 1960s and 1970s music scene with incredible collections from many of the A-List rockers such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, Queen,
David Bowie,
Black Sabbath, T. Rex with Marc Bolan, Jeff Beck,
Blind Faith, Cream,
Eric Clapton and Pink Floyd. Equally significant are images featuring The Animals, The Band, The Byrds, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, The
Mamas & The Papas, The Move, Them, Mountain, New York Dolls, Sweet,
Thin Lizzy and Frank Zappa.
While there are plenty of photos featuring the artists performing, there are amazing images that were taken early on in their careers including professional photo shoots for promo or cover material, candid and personal real life photos and just about every kind of photographic documentation of touring and life on the road.
"If I had to make a list of the top collections in the auction, I would have to say the images featuring The Rolling Stones, The Who, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd,
Black Sabbath and Otis Redding are really superb, but it's hard to name just a few because there are so many impressive photos featuring so many different artists - you just have to see the entire collection," says van Gool.
This collection is divided into a little over 400 individual auction lots and most will be offered with a full transfer of rights, which makes this material not only valuable for collectors and fans but is also commercially appealing for industry professionals, including those associated with the artists or bands.
The London Features Photo Archive Auction catalog can be previewed now and the bidding will begin on
September 26th and run through October 4th, 2015 at Backstage Auctions, Inc.
