LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts) On the heels of her recently released and raved about 'The Trackless Woods,' Iris DeMent has announced an extensive United States tour that will see her play seventeen cities over the next few months. 'The Trackless Woods' garnered rave reviews from Fresh Air, NY Times, LA Times and more. The BostonGlobe called it "heart-stopping" while the Chicago Tribune remarked, "with each track, DeMent sounds like she's losing her innocence all over again." Iris will be accompanied by her band on this tour that will run through mid-December. Full list of dates below.
'The Trackless Woods' is unlike any other in Iris' illustrious career. Featuring original music and melodies, the record brings 18 poems by acclaimed 20th century Russian poet Anna Akhmatova to life. Iris recorded the album in five days, immediately taken by the sorrow and burden of the poems juxtaposed with Akhmatova's lightness and transcendence in the face of inhumanity. The project fulfilled a long yearned-for desire to connect with her adopted daughter's culture and history, Iris and her husband adopted their daughter from Siberia in 2005, and she says "I'd never have made this record were it not for her."
